People Power, obsolete?

These last days we have seen on tv the things that are happening in our country. There was a call from the CBCP for a communal action.
Some say that People Power is obsolete and is not applicable to the situation we have now. Somehow I disaggree but sometimes I come to think that it is realy obsolete. Seeing on tv how those who participate in the rallies are beaten and "neutralized" really breaks my heart. The Filipino people is quite familiar with "People Power" and a few individuals have ideas on how to smash this and they are doing it.
