Feast of Exaltation of the Holy Cross: Fr Raniero Cantalamessa OFM Cap
Father Cantalamessa shows how art has depicted the Cross down through the ages, emphasising different aspects of our understanding of it. He explains why the feast is called the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. He also addresses the situation of those who are unable to go beyond their grief, those who still carry the cross instead of letting the Cross of the Risen Lord carry them.
When Faith Prevails
Gospel Commentary for Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross
By Father Raniero Cantalamessa, OFM Cap
ROME, SEPT. 12, 2008 (Zenit.org).- The suffering of the cross, its hard necessity in life, its reality as a way of following Christ is not presented to the faithful on Sunday, the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. Instead the glory of the cross, the cross as a reason for boasting and not for weeping is given pride of place.
