What a Wonderful World! Happy Earth Day...
One of my online friends has sent me a 'Happy Earth Day greetings!' Before I responded to her, I first did research about what is this Earth Day all about.
April 22, which is Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere, is known as the Earth Day. It is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. Senator Nelson of Wisconsin chose the date as the one that could maximize participation on college campuses for what he conceived as an environmental teach-in. He determined that the week of April 19-25 was the best bet. It did not fall during exams or spring breaks, did not conflict with religious holidays such as Easter or Passover, and was late enough in spring to have decent weather. More students were likely to be in class, and there would be less competition with other events mid-week, so he chose Wednesday, April 22 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Day). However, the United Nations celebrates an Earth Day each year on the March equinox, which is often March 20.
The world is full of special days intended for special cause, for special group of people, for places, for special events. We have the so called Labor Day, Women's Day,Teacher's Day, Valentine's Day, Human Rights Day,Negros Day and many others...
Reflecting about the Earth Day is like reflecting on the birthday of a person. Every year we greet our loved ones and really treat them so special during that day. But it doesn't mean that we love them less if its not their birthday or that we consider them less special and we don't care about them if its not their birthday. The Earth is supposed to be like this. We should care for the Mother Nature everyday. We should take care of it and consider it in every steps we are taking 365 days a year...If we will going to think of it, then Earth Day must be well-responded upon because we are the people of the Earth and we are living in this planet. All of us should participate in taking care of our environment because everyday is a day for the Earth... a day to notice how wonderful it is with all the amazing and awesome creatures present in it...the leaves, the trees, the birds, the oceans, the mountains. I found myself singing this hopeful and optimistic ,"I see trees of green, red roses too. I see them bloom, for me and you. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world..."
Nature is a gift from God...It sustains us with fresh water and foods. It gives us rest and joy. All of these reveal God's greatness and love for us...and He entrusted us this responsibility of taking care for our Earth for the next generation to enjoy too.And yes, what a wonderful world!
Happy Earth Day every day! Explore, Discover, Preserve and Take Care the Earth...Let's treasure and protect God's gift for every mankind...
