FATHER JOEKERI brought Mary Yaa Abrafi, our catering student, for her practicum in Nkawkaw. After introducing her to Sister Rowena and Sr Brenda Guieb, both SSpS sisters from the Philippines, she looked at me and confided, ‘You are not really white, Father.’ Luckily the two Sisters did not hear. Perhaps they came at a wrong time – our choristers from Fr Joseph Panangbang, SDV ‘It’s ok if my surname is misspelled and SVD incorrectly A week after the election of the new Pope, I visited Banda- Ahenkro station. They were telling me they had not seen pictures of benediction. ‘What?’ I wanted to clarify. ‘The new Pope,’ said the catechist. ‘Ah, you mean Pope Benedict XVI,’ I corrected. Every year we Filipino missionaries in Ghana come together for a reunion. Everybody has a task to do during the gathering. Feeling too lazy to wash the plates, I said, ‘Excuse me. I am going for my morning prayer first’. Fr Boy Endoma SVD loudly responded, ‘Alleluia.’ ‘Tama Boy, kailangan natin ang luya. Magpapaksiw tayo,’ piped in Sister Precy who just then was coming into the kitchen. |
